City Hotel Thessaloniki.
The beating heart of Thessaloniki
The CITY Hotel branding and logo has its roots in the early decades following its opening. Specifically, it draws from the typefaces and letterforms that we all encounter so familiarly within the urban landscape. Street numbers, elevator floor indicators, and signage from past decades are all adorned with a shared aesthetic—almost dormant in the collective consciousness of their viewers. It is this aesthetic that we choose to foreground. A typographic language that forms an integral part of urban visual communication, expressed in the most familiar and approachable way.
The graphic elements that complement and unify the identity of CITY Hotel take the city itself as their point of reference. Drawing from the street layout of Thessaloniki and the urban planning of its fabric, shapes—blocks—are created, functioning like building blocks or city blocks. In this way, flexible graphic containers and photo masks are designed, which host information or, like building blocks, define the open space of the compositions in each individual application.
